Dolores Swartworth, an at-large member of the Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group, spoke with us at this year’s National Community Reinvestment Coalition conference on the value of the event and what, at 80 years old and “20-some” NCRC conferences in her portfolio, keeps her coming back.

Swartworth, along with her colleague, Darla D’Anna, a member of the PCRG board of directors, spoke with us as we canvassed conference attendees on what they hoped to learn at NCRC, what they hoped to achieve on Capitol Hill when they met with their legislators, and how they will implement any tools and resources acquired at NCRC in their communities and organizations.

Swartworth had just completed a workshop in Pittsburgh with ESOP, the nearby, Cleveland-based Empowering & Strengthening Ohio’s People, on foreclosure and neighborhood stabilization. That workshop, she said, was part of her motivation to attend (ESOP was in attendance at the conference), as well as to promote CRA modernization: “The banks are getting away with so much… they used to have to come in the communities and help. They’re not doing that anymore.”
