In October 2011 a coalition of Philadelphia-based community, faith, and labor groups under the umbrella of the Campaign to Take Back Vacant Land, the Women’s Community Revitalization Project, and Shelterforce publisher National Housing Institute sponsored a symposium at Philadelphia City Hall that examined the role that municipal land banks and community land trusts can play in redeveloping vacant land.
The daylong event featured some of the most innovative leaders in the land bank and land trust fields, including WCRP’s Nora Lichtash, Chris Norman of the Atlanta Land Bank Authority, Dan Kildee of the Center for Community Progress, John Barros of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, Tony Pickett of the Atlanta Land Trust Collaborative, John Emmeus Davis of Burlington Associates, and NHI’s Harold Simon.
